Workflow: DFI Day 2
Tuesday 30th July
Reflecting on our second day of learning, still working on those neural pathways!
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
We joined a Hangout with Dorothy- with today's focus on Learn-ako- accessing and engaging with existing knowledge in a digital environment.
I really liked the Image of the railway tracks- showing the parallel paths of a community of learners moving to the digital world and increasing teacher effectiveness and accelerating learning outcomes in this digital environment.
We don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
Maximise digital affordances to promote increased learning outcomes for students.
R Recognise and acknowledge effective practice
A Amplify that effective practice
T Turbocharge is where technology kicks in - opens up the world, doing things that were never there before.
E Effective Practice
Interesting…..What does learn look like for us at Rāwhiti? What effective programmes cause learning and increase outcomes?
Rewindable learning- enables greater access for those students who miss instructions, can’t do multiple instruction. If it’s worth learning, it’s worth capturing.
Technology enables removable barriers and greater opportunities for new ways of learning.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Today I had the opportunity to play and have a Hangout practice- where we shared a slide of our favourite country and spoke about it, this would be a very cool thing to try with a writing group. There were technical glitches and I definitely needed help, but we got there in the end.
So good to learn more about Google Keep for making lists, reminders, having it open to copy parts of a doc, you can add images, reuse lists, remember to pin, keep open when working in docs, make a list of icons, stickers. Ideas and uses are endless.
Note to download this onto my phone also- to prompt and remind. Excited to learn that through this app I can take a photo of some text , tap the photo, go to the 3 dots, grab the text and it types it out.
Also the Layout app for my phone as a good tool for creating photo collages.
Gmail- need to create a Keep with all of the great shortcuts I have learned today. Taking time to explore the settings was very useful. I learned that you can schedule mail.
Shortcuts I will use are : g and t to go to sent mail, g and s to go to starred mail, d to compose in a new tab, v goes to move to, c to compose, g and d goes to draft.
Learning about the tools to manage my ever increasing tabs was fantastic, I have installed Toby Mini today and when I get some time to have a play and a sort, I will be able to organise connected multiple tabs into folders. They can then be easily accessed, this will certainly ease workflow, when planning and reporting. Meantime I have also added OneTab to my Chrome extensions, I will see what works best for me.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
This learning is strengthening my awareness of the power of Rewindable learning- which enables greater access for those students who miss instructions, can’t do multiple instruction. If it’s worth learning, it’s worth capturing. Technology enables removable barriers and greater opportunities for new ways of learning for our kids.
One thing that I will take away is the power of effective genuine feedback, this was evidenced when we explored the blogs in the Summer Learning Journey slides
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
So many tips to help me organise and streamline my mail, tabs, documents. Once I sort some strategically chosen Google Keeps I know this will certainly ease the workflow. Already tonight I have sorted and filed my overloaded Gmail inbox.
As I learn and practise I know that I will gain greater confidence in this ever growing digital world. I certainly know how our learners at school feel, for I too am a learner.
